Vist still very brittle

So after struggling to get vista installed, and finally getting it there (not quite the way I wanted it) I've found that vista is quite brittle. Aside from the driver problems I'm having (not really MS's fault but still annoying) I decided to install Aqua Dock (windows XP apple dock like app) which didn't work because it complained that it only works in XP.. Ok, fine... whatever... Then I install trillian which installs quick time 6, so far so good except opps, quick time 6 isn't compatible with vista... Damn, well I guess I'll just upgrade to Quick Time 7... Ok fine, no complaints about non-compatiblity... Except then I reboot vista, and now it's dead... "blue screens" because of a corrupted driver. Fun... So I throw in the DVD to run recovery, after waiting about a minute looking at the installer background for it to bring up the installer wizard, I click recovery. Vista right away pulls up a dialog asking me which installation to repair, except my mouse is an hour glass over the dialog and won't let me choose the next button. don't know what the installer is waiting for, but I really want to fix vista up... It's at this point that I decided I'm done caring.... Seriously, Vista is pretty but with all the driver issues and what not.. I'm thinking I'm going to eventually blow away my vista partition and reclaim it for XP for the time being.
It's too bad that vista is in the state that it is... Based on the littlle bit of paying around I did it looks interesting dispite some minor UI quirks. I hope microsoft decides to devot some more resources to vista and get it fixed up quick. It *could* be a nice OS... with some work... at this point I'm thinking the vista beta 2 experience is really more of a beta 1 expereince.
